WildPosh at the 13th International Symposium on Syrphidae
WildPosh was represented at the 13th International Symposium on Syrphidae (ISS13), held in Primiero San Martino di Castrozza, Italy, from 22-27 June 2026, a leading international conference dedicated to hoverfly research.
Researchers from the University of Novi Sad presented WP2 results on the acute toxicity and sublethal effects of several pesticides – cypermethrin, acetamiprid, and tebuconazole, individually and in combination – in Eristalinus aeneus. The findings discuss species sensitivity and potential additive effects, reinforcing hoverflies as model non-bee pollinators for pesticide risk assessment.

The team also introduced the broader WildPosh research concept alongside WP4 results, including the development of European hoverfly trait and distribution datasets. They discussed the challenges of integrating heterogeneous biodiversity data and outlined future perspectives for applying these datasets to pesticide risk assessment.
Student research on the effects of early adult pesticide exposure on hoverflies was presented as well. This work that went on to receive a student poster award, further raising the visibility of both the project and its outputs.
Partners from the BioSense Institute contributed two posters: Early Adult Exposure to Pesticide Cypermethrin Increases Wing Fluctuating Asymmetry in Eristalinus aeneus (Scopoli, 1763) and Hoverfly Research within the WildPosh Project. Together, these gave an overview of the hoverfly research planned within WildPosh and presented results on the effects of cypermethrin on wing fluctuating asymmetry in E. aeneus.
Across the symposium, WildPosh's outputs sparked strong interest in the project's datasets and methodologies, and encouraged discussions on data standardisation and reuse.
